1: Aimed for freedom Armed with ART

Seiko woodcut print #3

“Aimed for freedom Armed with ART”

This work relates to my hope and goal of statement that Art releases from a part of central capitalism and power.

Breaking wall between Art and society's image of art, that hope is that Art will be free for all and for artists.

I’m making woodcuts using the Ukiyoe technique.
Ukiyoe is a traditional japanese woodcut print process that uses several wooden blocks carved with chisels, one for each colour. A “Baren” is then used to press Washi paper to print each colors one by one.
Traditionally, drawing, carving and printing are made separately by different profesionals, however I’m tring to do all myself. Step by step, day by day, trying and trying.

I’m impressed with Ukiyoe’s way to print, and the fact that at the time Ukiyoe was used similar to printed illustrations in European countries, showing popular topics of the time.

So, I’m using Ukiyoe to voice my emotion or hope or suffering of the modern time.
